Cool Factor Upped-- Slightly


It's not everyday I do something considered "cool". And by that I mean cool by teenage standards.

I've gushed about my recently turned 13 years old Godson in this space more times than I can count, but it's never been about anything cool I actually did.

Well, today that all changed. I got the rarely seen "you rock" smile-- the one that curves the corners of his lips ever so slightly so as not to actually lose his cool factor, but enough for me to know I'm getting a thumbs up from him.

It was easy really, all I had to do was listen to one song over, and over, and over again-- Blasting as loud as my car's stereo would play-- With all the windows down-- For 32 minutes on the drive home from school.


Yes, I thought I would lose my mind, but it was worth those curled lips and sideways glance from my guy letting me know I was rocking it for him.

Although the song is still banging around in my head several hours later, and even though I have absolutely no idea why he requested the "Ghostbusters" theme song, I have to say, it totally made my day.

And yes, I'm easy-- I'll do it again for that brief, shining, "cool" moment.

    Love it...yes I'm sure your ears are still ringing....but worth it to be cool. Enjoy your shinning moment! My teenager thinks I'm the farthest from cool! I stopped trying.

    Me? Not so much....unless you ask one of my pets. When I let them through the door of the house, in either direction, they think I'm the Queen Mother of Cool.

    Interesting!! I would have never guessed that the theme song to Ghostbusters was cool?? LOL!! I can only imagine how your ears rang. Congrats on your coolness!!

    Now, don't get me wrong, I love the song, but does he know how old that song is?? As far as cool, well, I remember when I was 40, my daughter came home and told me her friends were surprised that I looked as young as I did... yeah, ok, guess I inherited good genes...and I still have that issue... I have to admit it gets annoying (sometimes)...

    I loved the movie when it came out, but the possiblility of coolness would not tempt me to listen to fhe theme over and over at full volume! You DO rock!

    I had to listen to three little girls rocking it to Rockin Robin - Jackson Five once. But Ghostbusters does trump J5!!! You go girl!! :)

    I love that song. Occasionally, I will pull it out and blast it for myself.

    Every now and then, I impress my teenage son with something he considers "cool". Most times, I think he just thinks I'm a dork! It's much easier to impress my 10 year old. She always thinks I'm cool!!

    I think I really am having a mid-life crisis because I *still* love this track and I'm bopping along to it now as I type. ('Bopping' probably isn't a cool word though, is it)?

    Nothing like acting like a kid to be kool.

    I sometimes get my groove on here and play a song real loud and start singing and dancing around. One of those songs that only kids are into these days. Of course, I usually just get that blank stare from everyone.

    Yep, I've done the music drive with my teenager in this way also - coming home from school and driving to school can leave lasting 'cool' impressions.

    You sound VERY cool indeed...I can imagine that song going around your head for hours after was all worth it!
    Have I done anything cool lately? Not when it comes to other people's recognition but I have dropped £1000 on diving! Ouch.

    I was just thinking about "sticky songs" recently. (You mentioned how "Ghostbusters" stayed in your head after this episode.) For some weird reason, I'll hear the damned "Beverly Hillbillies" theme song, or the "rawhide" theme song, going round in my head. Not cool, is it? :-)

    Maybe you should play "I want a new drug" but Huey Lewis and the News. They sound very similar so much so that Lewis sued Parker (Ghostbuster writer) for copyright infringement. He could learn a little about our legal system in the process.

    I thought it was really cool when my teenage daughter (years ago now) discovered the Beatles. She was asking me about the music.

    HA! Ghostbusters, eh? I embarrased the bajeebers out of my daughter when she was about 12 by playing a cassette as loudly as I could, going through town...the music was calliope music!
