Recently I tagged along with Godson's school class on a field trip to the Los Angeles Zoo. We had a great time and the kids were thrilled with every minute of the day.
This exhibit had several gorillas that were so gorgeous and regal, the kids stared at them, in silence (!) for a full five minutes.
On one hand, I was sorry to see them in captivity, on the other I was happy the kids were so engaged and interested in learning more about them. Maybe we'll have a future veterinarian in the class...

Several giraffes were showing off for us. This baby was especially sweet...
The lion's den was another big thrill for the kids.....
And yes, the teachers had to point out this sign multiple times....

Thanks gawd we came home with as many kids as we arrived with!
Welcome to The Fifty Factor - Joanna Jenkins
It is great of you to follow a class trip Joanna. And the animals are so amazing. I think they have come to enjoy visitors.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your Sunday.
I love, love, love gorillas... amazing animals. Great shots :0)
ReplyDeleteOh I just love to go to the zoo! Glad you and the kids had a great time. Last time I went, I had a peacock following me everywhere and trying to talk to me. I think it was "love"! LOL!

What fun! I bet your godson was so glad to have you along. Great pics too!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, Joanna. And I'll bet that was one of the best days those kids had. What fun!
ReplyDeleteteehee. so no rescuing little ones from the cages. love going on field trips with my son. the zoo is a fav...love the animals.
ReplyDeletegr8t photos!!! Iesp like the last one! Enjoy ur week!
ReplyDeleteI also love the zoo, but feel the same way. It really is wrong. I know we all love to see the animals and it's a wonderful learning experience. It just makes me feel so sad for the animals. I'm sure the kids loved it. Ours sure use to. My daughter can walk to a zoo and they spend a lot of time enjoying it. Have good one!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, JJ! I'll bet you enjoyed it as much as the kids! Zoos are such wonderful places for young and old alike.
ReplyDeleteGodson is blessed that you 1) love him so much, 2) are available to spend time with him so often, and 3) are such a cool godmother! Any time you want to adopt another god child I am available! I really love giraffes. I will write a post some day about giraffes. Hugs to you, Joanna, have a wonderful Sunday and thanks for the lovely pics of the LA zoo.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a lovely zoo! I like when the animals are alert and awake...makes me feel like they are happy, in a way. Thanks for sharing! Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteDid you go on the trip with one of your nieces or nephews? In any event, I admire your eagerness to explore so many different things around you. That's a beautiful zoo, too. Our Detroit Zoological Park is lovely, too, and your post reminds me that I need to pay a visit when the weather finally warms up.
ReplyDeleteInteresting observations about zoo.

Ooo, I just love zoos. I've made a point of going to one in every city I've lived in! Glad to know kids still appreciate the majesty of nature.
ReplyDeleteThe honor of sharing a child's first experience never gets old. It's better than beauty cream. :)
ReplyDeleteThe first ape pic-omg,gorgeous.
That looks like a great zoo! I haven't been to the zoo in ages. Maybe once spring arrives!
ReplyDeleteJoanna... your photos just get better and better. I LOVE the zoo photos! Thank you so much for capturing such wonderful images {the last one didn't post for me though}. As soon as it warms up around here, I'm heading for the Jacksonville Zoological Gardens. It's really a fantastic place and such a serene way to spend the day.
ReplyDeleteLove you sweetie. Glad you had a good time and no one became lunch.
Great photos, Joanna. Glad to hear you had a great time. Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to the zoo in a long time. Need to get back!
ReplyDeleteIt must be zoo day at SIMC. Michelle wrote about the Bronx Zoo.
ReplyDeleteI could watch those gorillas all day long.
Love the field trip. I take my class to the zoo every year. One time we visitied the lions who were "playing" with each other. Now THAT was interesting for a group of 5 year olds.
ReplyDeletethanks for the trip to the zoo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun trip. I love to go to the zoo, thanks for takin' us along for the ride.
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have a great week!!!
I remember going to the zoo when my kids were younger and this kid jumped in to the sea lions tank - right into their water. The kid looked to be about 7 years old. The sea lions started barking loudly. I'm not sure if they were afraid or angry. Some other adult (not his mom or dad) jumped in and pulled him out. Good thing he didn't do it in a lions den.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh I can't wait to go back to the zoo with my little ones!! We bought a pass last year and went once...so we need to go again before it expires!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots. So sad to see animals in captivity though. OH, and I hope all the kids came back with all fingers intact too! ;-)
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good week ahead!

Neat! Did you know that giraffes have the same number of neck bones as humans do? I learned that while watching "50 Outrageous Animal Facts." What did you think I watch? "Masterpiece Theatre"? ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh I know its not quite PC to say you enjoy the Zoo these days is it? But, I love the zoo. I went on one of those trips recently where you spend the day with a ranger and feed all the animals. I loved the giraffes but had to climb a ladder to feed them. I was mroe scared of the ladder than the giraffe, lol!! Glad the kids all came back in one piece!
ReplyDeleteI guess I am repeated what a lot of your comments are saying. But I love zoos and taking pictures of the animals. Love you giraffe!
ReplyDeleteTake care. xxx
The first pic of the gorilla made me think of Willie, a famous gorilla of the Atlanta Zoo that died of old age a few years ago. I really miss seeing Willie!
ReplyDeleteI loved Samson the gorilla at the Milwaukee zoo. Your post makes me want to bring my kids there.
ReplyDeleteI love tagging along on the school trips. I try to do one with each child each year, which means i get to do them all (gotta have some perks right?) You've caught some great moments there!
ReplyDeleteI have such mixed feeling about zoos, but I'm dying to take my daughter because she loves animals so much.
ReplyDeleteGoing to the zoo with the kids classroom in a week 1/2 any suggestions?
