Sundays In My City #3

Do you know Unknown Mami? She's awesome and she's started a fun Sunday theme inviting you to get out and take pictures of your city to share with the rest of us. Click here for details and her logo and here to see Unknown Mami's city.

In LaLaLand, aka Los Angeles, you never know what you'll see. This week Godson and I stepped into Universal Studios Hollywood for about the hundredth time and, once again, had a blast. This season has some new attractions at Universal and a whole lot of the the old stuff but in case you've never been there before, here are some of the highlights.

I have no idea who the lady is below, but she's in about 1,000 photos taken by tons of tourists because she refused to move.

At Universal they are very serious about the No Smoking rule....

The driver of this car smoked anyway....

And this is what happened to him....

Fortunately, no one was injured in this plane crash below. That plane was smokin' but I don't think it had anything to do with cigarettes. You'll see it on the Studio Tour Tram Ride. It's the plane Steven Speilberg "crashed" for "War of the Worlds" starring that couch-jumping maniac, Tom Cruise.

This summer, Universal introduced a new live show. I wonder what they were smoking when they came up with this idea of a musical about "The Creature From The Black Lagoon".

An old favorite of ours is the Animal Actor's show which used to be called "Animal Planet Live" but I guess the licensing rights got too expensive. It's the exact same show, just a different name. We've seen it so many time we know the script verbatim. Note: If you see this show, sit to the LEFT of the stage to avoid birds pooping on your head.

Recently this huge attraction came to the park. It took us a few visits to get our nerve up to actually ride the ride....

It is important to note-- Go on this ride before lunch and if you don't like being rattled around or in a 3-D roller coaster ride, skip it. 'Nuff said.

After a long day of many "celebrity sightings" (Shrek, Dora The Explorer, Zorro, and Frankenstein) a couple of overpriced slices of pizza, an entire bag of cotton candy, and a million laughs, we headed home.

I highly recommend Universal Studios Hollywood even though it's not actually in Hollywood. We have season passes and go about five times a year during school vacations. Just please follow the No Smoking rules.

What's new in your city?
Welcome to The Fifty Factor - Joanna

Wow what fun! I've never been there - but will definitely add it to my list of places to go! Looks like a ton of fun.

And here I thought it was going to be a tour of the movie/television lot itself. I had no idea it was an amusement park. Such colourful photos and clever commentary! I very much enjoyed your tour. I have to laugh though about that first photo with the woman who refused to move. I can imagine her family told her to meet them by the entrance sign and "Don't move or we won't find you!"

Hubby and I just checked out the movie War of The Worlds with Tom Cruise from the library and watched for one of our date on the couch afternoons. And here you have the crashed plane!! I grew up in southern CA and was at Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm hundreds of times but not so much anything else and never to Universal Studios except to a concert there.

Is your Godson lucky or what?

I LOVE Universal Studios!!! We have one in Orlando, dontcha know, and I never tire of going to it. The "Islands of Adventure" side has all the coasters. If you've never launched out of The Hulk, you haven't lived.

Also, they do Halloween Horror Nights every year beginning at the end of September. It's pricey (you MUST get fast passes or don't even bother going... you'll spend the entire night in line), but the most fun you can have this side of the dark side. I'm 50 and still love that kind of stuff. I was amazed, though, at how much of a cocktail party HHN is. Luckily, I can go with that flow pretty easily.

How much fun would we have together Joanna? So, what are you doing in October, hmmmm???

Wow, that old broad at the sign? You ain't kidding she wasn't going to move. Look at her standing there with her arms all crossed and staring at you! LOL

We may have just found the third Snarky Sister!

I've never been to California and have only been to Florida long enough to board a cruise ship. If I ever DO get to either of these fair states, I think I'd like to visit Universal Studios! It looks like a blast!

Where are the real celebrities???

I haven't been to Universal Studios since they introduced Jaws getting ready to eat the boat of tourists.

Thanks for the great tour of Universal Studios. We went there years ago when my kids were 17, 15 and 9. Great fun and great memories, even now. Two of them got to take part in a "making a movie" attraction which they thought was very cool.

Oh my goodness gracious : ) This looks like such a fantatsically fun place. Kaishon would be SO happy to visit here. We really must come to California one day. How can we not : ) I am glad you had such a fantastic day :)

The lady in the Universal Studio sign was awesome....that made me laugh aloud....

Yeah Footloose, I mean Wheaton doesn't have "rides" although I suspect some of the do-gooder Bible bangers have a wild side :)

Great post!

I haven't been to Universal Studios since I was a child. I can't believe how much it has changed.

Your comment about the lady in the first photo cracked me up.

I was trying to figure out who that lady in the first pic was, when I read your explanation. Hilarious!
I liked this post a lot. Very funny captions.

Great photos and it sounds like you had a great time - wish I was able to have tagged along...I wouldn't have been any trouble, promise!

Hehe..I love your commentary and the woman in a thousand photos cracks me up. Usually people are so careful to move out of the way when they see a camera pointed in their direction!

I loved going on my virtual tour of the studios. Thank you. :)

That looks like fun. Thanks for the tour.

that sounds like an amzingly fun day! new in our town...a year round ski slope that uses some synthetic material as opposed to fake snow...supposedly first of its kind in the US...its a rather big eye sore on the side of the mountain...maybe i will feel differently if i give it a try...

You cracked me up with the first photo. She really didn't move? We probably will see her floating around blogville. I'm glad you two had a wonderful time again. Enjoy! xoxo

Interesting concept. I was just thinking about this, and here you post it.

I don't know how I missed this one yesterday.

I just had a flashback from my childhood! Seriously, I remember that place!

Sure, you went to Universal Studios, but did you have as much fun as I had? I did some house cleaning and watched it rain. Jealous?

Seriously, Universal Studios looks like fun. If only it were a little closer to home....
