Where Are My Manners

Yes, it's true! My manners are slacking and I have a few thank yous to catch up on.

Three wonderful bloggers and friends have gifted me with goodies.

Diane at Cooking Blind gave me this cool award for Superior Commenting. I read a ton of blogs and comment as often as I have something to say, even if it's just a few words and a thank you. Of course other times, I write mini-novels in the comments section and for that, I apologize for being a space hog. Seriously though, I like commenting and I especially make a point of thanking bloggers for sharing their work.

I really like the idea of an award for commenting so thanks a million to Diane for recognizing me!

Which reminds me, in my first several months of blogging, I've been called on the carpet and seriously scolded by commenters twice. Once was after my rant about turning 51 and not being the least bit happy about the impact aging was having on my appearance. In that case "Anonymous" dressed me down for not posting a photo of myself to show "just how bad I look". Then Anonymous DARED me to post a photo of myself-- Sort of a put up or shut up kind of dare. That's a dare that will happen when pigs fly-- dressed in tutus-- out of my nose. I'm not a picture taking girl, never have been, never will be. So I lost the dare and moved on.

The second dress down was on a blog about not enjoying retirement. And let me tell you, this commenter left me a mouthful of anger because I dared (there's that word again) complain about the "luxury" of not having to work. She, on the other hand was none too happy about the size of her government assistance check and pretty much told me where to put my retirement boo-hooing-- With lots of 4-letter words beginning with "F". I deleted the comment.

Green-Eyed Momster presented me with this lovely Superior Scribbler Award. Thanks Momster! I've surprised myself with how much I enjoy writing/scribbling and look forward to my spare time in front of the computer screen.

This award comes with a few rules and I've listed them below. But, since I read so many great blogs and don't want to single any one, or in this case, five, out, I give the award to all of you! I'll leave it to you to decide if, or who, you would like to pass this onto.

Last, but not least, my friend Betty at a Glimpse Into MidLife gave me this 7 MeMe Award. Thanks Betty! I'm supposed to share seven tidbits about myself and pass the award on to seven other bloggers. Again, I'll let you decided if you want to participate but I'll leave you with my "seven" things you'd probably don't know about me.

1) I find that parents who throw huge, elaborate, 1st birthday parties for their kids are usually the same parents who give a drive-thru Happy Meal to their kids for the 2nd birthday.... Or at least I would.

2) I could eat Buffalo Chicken Wings dunked in blue cheese dressing all day long. Seriously-- All. Day. Long.

3) I took a test in 8th grade that said all I was "qualified" to do in life was "clean Venetian Blinds". As a result, I have NEVER had Venetian Blinds in any of my homes. Not that I'm bitter or anything, but I'd like to send my resume to my guidance counselor and the guy who administered the test.

4) My toe nails are always polished. Today the color is lavender. Last week was hot pink. Next week maybe orange.

5) My high school sweetheart asked me to marry him while he was driving us to my Senior Prom. I laughed so hard he nearly wrecked the car. Yes, we broke up shortly thereafter.

6) When I was 19 years old, I decided being a ballet dancer was probably not a good career choice for me. First I discovered the above mentioned Buffalo Chicken Wings and second, it would drive me crazy when some schmuck in the audience would blow their nose like a mongoose in the middle of me dancing my heart out in Swan Lake.

7) I married my husband twice! Post to follow August 28th on our original anniversary.

Hope your day is Award-Winning and happy.
Welcome to The Fifty Factor - Joanna

  3. Umm, you've created a force to make the Universe run amuke by not giving these lovelies to very specific people you big whuss!

Now there will be hair pulling and growling and bloggers wrestling and rolling around in the streets. All because you did not follow the rules.

Oh, the inhumanity of it all!

    I can't look. It's too ugly.

Oh, and as to you getting these? Absolutely well deserved!!!!

    Someone got p*ssed about THAT?
wow. Aren't you lucky that they spent so much of their life energy on you ... :D

Lavender ... now I haven't done that one yet ... that would look really pretty.

I could eat bbq smoked sausages and potato salad all day. But I can't. :(

    Have a great weekend!

  7. You deserve the awards! Congratulations! I´m sorry you had some commenters who couldn´t curtail their foul language and left such a bad comment. That must hurt.
You anniversary is on my hubby´s birthday, so I´ll be looking forward to reading your story!

  8. Reading your blog always makes my day!

I'm not a picture taking gal, myself. The only pictures of me on my blog are from my wedding 20 years (and a few pounds) ago.

    Congrats on your awards!

  9. I admire you. Mainly for your ability to keep your toenails polished. I just can't seem to keep mine covered, so I went granola. No polish. So sad.

  10. Congrats on the awards. Your list was great! Posting pictures of "self" is never easy. I have posted a few, but there are limits.

  11. loved your tidbits and sorry about those rude commenters you had...I could use some of those buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing right now!

  12. Congratulations on your awards. As for those rude comments, just amazes me! Take care, i look forward to the 28th post. that is my anniversary too. I married each husband once!

  13. Would you rather go somewhere else instead of the Old Spaghetti Factory so that you can get some buffalo wings?

Congratulations on the awards! You are so deserving of them!

  14. Oh Joanna, I wanted you to have the SS award. I have been feeling the pressure to live up to it and post stuff people would want to read. My blog has always just been a place for me to be myself and it started out as just something fun for me to do because I can't seem to find many shows I want to watch on TV.
I'm so glad that you are on the SS list! It's quite an honor.

My toenails are always painted too! I usually put glitter over a dark color like black or magenta.

I missed those posts where people gave you such a bad time! Wow! That's so not cool!

I double dog dare you to keep being awesome!! :)

    Hugs and love!!

  15. I can't believe someone left you an "f" word angry comment, anonymously! My friend, Isabel of Hipster Musings, has the angry anonymous comment problem too. But she posts them up, and then we all trash the person who left the comment, it's great fun.
I love the prom/laughing story. I bet you have a great laugh.
Congratulations on your awards, you deserve them all. Love & lollipops, xo d

  16. All well-deserved! Congrats!

  17. Good for you that you deleted the tatty comment. You are strong enough to know that it is your blog and you get to choose if you want a comment there or not. Like the rest of the commenters, I look forward to the story behind the twice married. I like Buffalo Chicken Wings with ranch dressing, but my all time favorite is tacos. Anytime, morning, noon, night.

  18. LOVE #2!!!
And my middle had a huge b~day for #1 and for her second we were at Burger King ;)

  19. Congratulations on the award. There will always be some people who take offense or react in the wrong way to a post or your comments, but at least it makes good blogging material.

  20. Congrats on those well-deserved awards!

I cannot, in my wildest dreams imagine marrying my ex another time. I can't wait to read that story!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think you give great comment!

It's funny I ate buffalo wings and blue cheese yesterday and I could have kept going and going. I love them and they never seem to fill me up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love love posts with facts about the blogger. I love the short quick facts that beg to tell a story.

My toes are always polished too. I can't stand them not to be. Although I'm not as fun as I generally stick with two colors.

Ok I'm dieing to know, the test was really that specific that it said venetian blinds?? You crack me up.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Congrats on your awards! I love all comments short long or indifferent, they are like opinions everyone has something else to say. As for Buffalo wings I'm right there with you, I could eat all day too! Have a wonderful weekend.

  24. Let me just say, I know Anonymous can be pretty darn testy when it comes to leaving comments. Personally,I think Anonymous needs to get a little sumpin-sumpin, if you know what I mean.

Venetian Blind Cleaner? Thought it should be capitalized because it's an elected post, isn't it? I'm still laughing at that one.

I'm looking forward to the twice married story. I'm twice married, the good, old fashioned way....going for a respectable cumulative total of married years. :)

  25. I loved these!! Now pass me some blue cheese....

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey I married my husband twice, too! Congrats on the awards, recognition is fun, no?

    ReplyDelete
  27. #1 made me smile, Toot is getting ready to turn one and I was just thinking to myself this very morning, "She'll never remember her first birthday party! Is it selfish to request gifts for myself?!" LOL ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love your list! Congrats on the awards. Sorry you had to read the not so nice comments. Enjoy my friend and have a golden weekend! xoxo

  29. First let me congratulate you on all thos awards, you deserve them. Thank you for coming by, hope you are having a nice weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My toenails are never clipped! LOL!
I am also with yo on the buffalo wings, but not the bleu cheese!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Congrats on the awards...you deserve them. Your comments are much appreciated and you are challenging me to become a more skilled blogger. BTW, just home from my youngest grandson's 4th birthday party...it was a backyard bash with waterguns, squirt bottle games, Slip & Slide and sprinklers. Very fun and age appropriate.

  32. As a middle school teacher, I'm appalled that any guidance counselor would say that; it's ridiculous. Obviously, it left an impression on you that was not favorable, and that's a terrible thing to do to a young kid. Was he at least kidding??

Can't do bleu cheese--it makes me nauseous, due to an unfortunate childhood incident. heehee

    ReplyDelete
  33. Cool awards!

I could also eat buffalo wings (the hotter the better) all day long! I kinda prefer ranch dressing, but bleu cheese works, too! If the opportunity ever presents, the first round is on me!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Congrats on your well-deserved awards. :)

I absolutely love the irony of daring you to show your face but posting that dare anonymously! Snort!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Congratulations on your awards. And poo on those mean commenters. I do like pictures of people. I'd love to see you one of these days.
Maybe you could post a wedding picture. I don't care which wedding. Just pick one. :)

I like food too much also to consider any sport at all especially ballet.
    Loved your list.
    ♥ Joy

  36. Short, sweet and to the point: FUN! have more of it for the rest of this weekend.... xoxo

  37. You definitely deserve your bloggy awards!! As for haters... well, they're out there and the more popular your blog is, the more likely it is they'll leave some nasty comments. People really are bolder online. Except for me and others like me who believe that being nice is worth it even when they can't see you.
I've only got 1.5 haters, and they're related to me. It's really silly business and I hate walking on eggshells, but I'll bloody well stand up for myself.

  38. Very interesting insights into the deep dark recesses of your soul.

I love OPI Nail Polish, but there's a new Sally Hansen that has caught my eye: Flashy Fuchsia.

I took that same test, and if I'm not mistaken, it suggested I apply for work making buttons.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh dear...your anon commenters! So pleased you can laugh at it all...and write about it so that we can all enjoy the read!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, we can't please all the people all of the time, can we?

Congrats on all those awards. You deserve them!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Can't wait to hear the marriage story either.

I can see why you love the buffalo chicken wing --- who wouldn't if crispy enough...

    ReplyDelete
  42. I always thought ballet dancers were so exquisite : ) I am sure you were lovely even if you loved buffalo chicken wings : ).

I can't believe anyone would be angry about how you feel about retirement. It is your choice. Your life and most importantly YOUR feelings. No one has been too mean to me yet, but one time, a lady told me that she could see where my computer had been googling and it had been going to bad sites. She said she couldn't read my blog any more because she didn't think I had integrity... Ummmmmmmmmmmmm. I thought that anyone that was looking to see what people were googling on their own computers was WIERD as could be. I wasn't sad that she stopped reading : )
