It was passed down to me by my mother, one of two beautiful table lamps that now suits on my office desk-- It originally belonged to my great-grandmother, "Granny", and is one of the things I vividly remember from her small apartment in the assisted living facility she called home for more than 30 years.
Is it the perfect desk lamp? Not exactly, but I love that it belonged to Granny and that it was by her bedside for as long as I can remember. I know this is the lamp that she read by each night and I know it's the lamp that burned softly on the nights she couldn't sleep and sipped warm milk.
I've been cleaning out my office filing cabinets for about a month now-- They're a mess and I'm sorting through old papers, shredding the outdated and filing the important documents I need to keep.
Several times, as I squinted to read something because the light was poor, I've thought of checking out the new table lamps available that would make the job so much easier, but in the end, Granny's is the lamp I know I'll always have.
Despite my aging eyes and diminishing vision, the memories behind the lamp are too deep for me to set it aside.

I have an old scale that I keep just because it was from my mom. It still works, but you can really tell it´s age. I guess these "little" things keep the memories alive though.

I can see why your granny's lamp would be a sentimental special lamp for you with childhood memories at the top of the list. I have a little swingaway lamp that works great for me. Good lighting is important when reading and working at computer as much as hubby and I do. Glad you are having a great giveaway, Joanna.

I completely understand your connection with the lamp. I'm very sentimental about the things I inherited from my grandma. I refuse to use anything but her old Hall mixing bowls when I bake. I think everything tastes better when I use them.

I can relate to the sentimental value behind the lamp. I too have a lamp that was in my grandmother's home, then my mother's and now it is in mine. It may not be one I would have picked out for myself, but because of its history and memories, I love it.
