It's been a busy few days since Godson and I returned from vacation with lots to do and catch up with. It's to the point that I feel like I need a vacation from my vacation! So what did I do???
Godson's Mom scored some free tickets to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus so we took a few friends to see the fun. We loved the circus so much last year that we didn't want to miss the thrills and excitement again this time around.
The pre-show started with a painting elephant....
Then things kicked-off with a bright, colorful, parade followed by an action-packed show. The little person in the pic was the sidekick to the Ring Master. He was our favorite clown of the show and, frankly, was more fun and had more personality than the Ring Master....
Of course there were death-defying acts and fabulous acrobats. Do not try this at home...

There were some real babes in the show too. See the little guy in front of his Mommy....
Although the tigers were gorgeous, I couldn't stop wondering why a grown *ahem*middle*aged* man would were shiny spandex tights in a cage with a bunch of tigers. It just seemed so very wrong....
After too much popcorn, cotton candy and all that clowning around, I brought this guy home with me....
We had a blast and will, hopefully, go again next year if the circus comes back to town. It was the perfect "official" end to our vacation. Now it's time to get back to work!
How's your Sunday?

Joanna, that looks like so much fun. I guess it's been about twenty years since I last went to a circus. By the time I finally get a grandchild, I'll probably be too old to maneuver the bleachers and make it to one when they come here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely a fan of the circus. The child in me does not need to be asked twice.
Have a fabulous Sunday. xxx
Wait, you already had your Sunday? Did I sleep for 24 hours again? I hate it when that happens.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a circus person. I think it's the horror writer in me. The story lines are literally endless at a circus.
I've seen Cirque du Solei a couple of times. That's pretty cool. Maybe it's the animals that get to me. No idea.
My Sunday will be watching the Open Championship. It started 30 minutes ago.
Casey
I love your circus pictures, Joanna! Last time I went, I was struck by how unexcited people seemed about the performers. They were up on wires, doing the most amazing things, and people in the crowd pretty much just sat there. I wondered if they were jaded from tv and movies and computer generated tricks.
ReplyDeleteIn San Antonio, Texas, where I used to live, they have the Hertzberg circus museum, which, oddly, is run by the library.
I love the bigtop! Thanks for this fun post!
I am very jealous as have never been to a circus :0( I did see some painting elephants in Thailand... but I want to go to the circus!!!!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed the circus!
ReplyDeleteIt's so hot here that I've taken up residence in the vegetable crisper of my refrigerator. I'll be there until October.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree with Casey. I don't like the animal part of circus...
ReplyDeleteOtherwise would be ok. People are really talented.

Hubby and I were talking about the circus yesterday and he checked online for dates of circus acts here. We have to wait till next year because we just missed them this year. Sounds like you and Godson and friends had a great time at the circus. Yes, I would say that is a perfect ending to a wonderful vacation.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots - I love love love circus' but I haven't been to one for many years.
ReplyDeleteIt's been awhile since I've gone to the circus, What fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good time! I am actually going to meet one of my blog friends that is vacationing in our area today. I am really looking forward to meeting her. Should be fun. I'll post about it this week.
ReplyDeleteLoved the circus when I was young...except the clowns...freaked me out! Glad you had a great time...have a great week back.

ReplyDeleteThey would come to my town every OCt and I would get to go cause my Bday was in oct! LOVE IT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFun circus shots! We haven't been to the circus since my 17yo was a baby!
ReplyDeleteThat is the cutest clown nose EVER!
ReplyDeleteAnd the cutest baby elephant ever.
I haven't been to the circus since I was in brownies--about 35 years ago. Thanks for sharing your pictures and I agree with you regarding spandex and tigers!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I haven't been to a circus in a long, long time. I'd almost forgotten how much fun they are. Looks like this one was a blast. And I've had a few vacations myself where I needed a vacation afterward.
ReplyDeleteI have not been to a circus in years, I will have to do it, take care, have a great rest of the weekend. hugs.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I haven't been to a circus in forever. The red nose is a hoot :)
ReplyDeleteKristin - The Goat
I have never been to the circus! I am making a point to go this year.
ReplyDeleteWow..what a wonderful fun time you all had!
ReplyDeleteCircus fun and a cute guy to go with--doesn't get much better than that.
ReplyDeleteHere from SIMC
I think you brought the wrong clown home JJ lol. I know what you mean about needing a vacation to get over a vacation haha...think we've all been there haven't we?
ReplyDeleteMy Sunday is nice and relaxed...I have 3 days off from work so I don't have to dread the Monday morning feeling :)
It's been ages since we went to the circus. I'm so glad you got to go. Looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time! I haven't been to the circus since I was a kid (I have severe clown-phobia).
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the guy in spandex tights! What's up with that?
I don't agree with wild animals in circus but the clowns and acrobats are really good fun.
ReplyDeleteHowever, the painting elephant is something different.

I haven't been to a circus in ages! Your pictures are wonderful! I cringe a little at tiger acts after what happened to Sieg & Roy.
ReplyDeleteGlad you went. It looks like fun!
Liz
I've never been to a circus...my fear of clowns won't allow it! Although I must say, that one you brought home is one cute clown! ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the circus pictures. Brings back memories when we took my niece years ago and she was picked out of the audience to ride the elephant. She was scared to death, but loved it at the same time.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful vacation, soooooo much fun.....:-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the last time I went to the circus.
ReplyDeleteOh my word. Your little clown is the CUTEST thing! I am glad you had a fun time. We went 2 years ago in the spring and had such fun : )
ReplyDeleteMaybe the trainer (never thought that was the best word for it) figures those are the best pants for escaping gnashing tiger teeth.
ReplyDeleteNah - he probably wears speedo's at the beach too.
Maybe he knows this guy -

Looks like a great time! Your clown is adorable! I can't wait to take the boys to the circus!
ReplyDeleteI really loved the circus. I was always in awe of the trapeze and loved the elephants.
ReplyDeleteYou've had some pretty great summer adventures so far. I'd say you need to rest a bit now.
Those photo's are amazing! My goodness, JJ, do you ever stay still? Now, that is what I call a great way to spend a Sunday - why couldn't I have had a godmother like you, when I was little?
ReplyDeleteI totally love that last photo.
ReplyDeletethe circus terrified me as a child. weird.
don't work too hard , Joanna.
Golly it's been years since we've been to the circus! The clowns traumatized the kids so much that I vowed not to torture them again! LOL
ReplyDeleteNow that they're adults, I wonder if they'd go. ;-)
You are so right...a wonderful way to complete your vacation. But a vacation from your vacation is definitely in order. Put your feet up for awhile and just do nothing. Then you should be ready to get on with it.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos of the circus. It has been ages since I have gone to one. They are so wonderful!!
Hugs
SueAnn
NOW you tell me not to try that at home!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved your pics! What a fun day!
The GREATEST show on earth! What fun you had!
ReplyDeleteDid you run in to any protestors?? I took my granddaughter to the circus in Portland and they were very ugly as we entered the venue.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!!
You have got to be the best Godparent ever!!! What a fun time the circus is. We used to take our Special Ed. class to the circus once a year. What fun!!!
ReplyDeleteYa'll enjoy this beautiful summer day!!!
We have a name for men in lycra
ReplyDelete.. a MAMIL.
Middle Aged Man In Lycra!
Hate seeing them too.. ikkkkk.
Although I understand the draw, and I'm certainly not immune to its magic, I'm not too keen to see majestic animals trained to do tricks. It's a struggle for me to find the balance between entertainment and exploitation. That's having been said, your photos are fantastic and I'm truly glad you enjoyed your time.
