So it's Super Bowl Sunday in my neighborhood and if I could have possibly forgotten that fact, all I have to do is look out my window-- At my neighbor's PINK garage door....
Yep, it's football's biggest day of the year but it's also the annual birthday party for my colorful neighbor's daughter. Each year on Super Bowl Sunday, the girlie-girl pink paint comes out and a massive gaggle of elementary school kids and their parents arrive to hoot and holler in the back yard starting right around kick-off time. There's Justin Bieber music, games, face-painting, Disney characters and a catering truck or two. I'm talking about a BIG party.
I live next door to Mr. Mom and Mrs. Corporate Bigshot who have two young children. He's a real hands-on Dad so every holiday and birthday is celebrated with great fanfare, a big party, and color coordinated paint on the garage door and picket fence that lines their yard.
Seriously-- It all get painted about six times a year-- with it painted white again in between!
And the yard gets replanted each time with flowers galore. Today, these beauties were planted...
Pretty nice huh? They'll last about 2 weeks then get pulled up and replaced with something less glorious but for now, I'll enjoy a hint of Spring that is rarely seen in Southern California....
How's your Super Bowl Sunday?
Welcome to www.TheFiftyFactor.com - Joanna Jenkins
Holy Goodness! What it must be like to have that much money! : ) A painted garage door for a party. Very fun and creative. LOVE their tulips! Even if they are short lived. I wish you could pop over and take some pictures at the party to show all of us. : )
ReplyDeleteWow - now that really is FUN! Those kids will have such great childhood memories...
ReplyDeletePink really? Dang that's ugly! Guess that's why they put in the beautiful flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteI am impressed - not only by the amount of money these people obviously spend on events, but also their creativity and GUTS - it's a bold move to paint your garage PINK on Super Bowl Sunday!
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Justin Beiber, you know I work at the post office - yesterday, we had a life sized stand-up cardboard figure of JB come through the mail - encased in cellophane - and the address label was stuck right in the middle of his face! I had the feeling whoever mailed it was NOT a fan!
I cracked up at Ethel Mae. But you've set the mood right for a celebration Joanna. Those tulips are awesome, and I bet they are expensive. It pays to have nice neighbours. Do you get invited over for the grandest party in the neighbourhood?
ReplyDeleteNo super bowl here but there's a hint of spring here in Casa too.
ReplyDeleteLucky you, no need to go movies, you have happening enough in your neighborhood! :)
Have a great week ahead!
I love the tulips, but I can't believe they paint their garage door and fence 6 times a year! And pink? Life is never boring over there I guess!
ReplyDeleteWOW, that is taking celebrating to a whole new level of fun and insanity. I can't imagine having the time or energy to paint a door once a year let alone half a dozen times, perhaps if I had someone to paint it for me?
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to Superbowl Sunday (Monday here) by having a long overdue day off work to watch.
Wow, talk about spoiling your kids! Holy pink cow! lol. I'd much rather look at your tulips, :)
ReplyDeleteWow that's fascinating to read that someone replants their garden and repaints their fence and garage all for the sake of a child's party... hard to believe.
ReplyDeletenot a particularly nice pink, but I do like the beautiful tulips.
Wow those are fun neighbors to have...love the tulips! Happy Sunday JJ!
ReplyDeleteWhat color will they paint the door when she hits the big 4-0? That is b'day party to the extreme! Hope she appreciates it!
ReplyDeleteIt takes all kinds. I'm sure their hearts are in the right place.
ReplyDeletesigh.
Pink tulips are beautiful! That garage door, however, no so much. My Super Bowl Sunday will be spent NOT watching the game. That's all I know about it.
ReplyDeleteoh i want to celebrate in your neck of the woods...and when the STEELERS win...it will be great...smiles.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get invited to the party (or maybe you can crash it) so we can see more of all that festivity.
ReplyDeleteWow! I can't get anything painted once a year much like semi-seasonally!
ReplyDeleteI love the tulips. They don't last long but they are gorgeous!
:-)

The huge birthday parties for young people are nothing like what the parties were when my kids were growing up. The tulips are at least nice for the whole neighborhood. Hope the neighbor's daughter has a great birthday and all her friends too. Their birthday party sounds like so much fun and not all the drinking that I fear on the road after the Super Bowl game.
ReplyDeleteWOW! That sounds so fun! Hope you have a good and safe Super Bowl Sunday! If you ever get to Long Beach I'm at Farmers Market with my booth now! Email me and I will tell you the days and Location AutisminLongBeach@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the Colors of Spring in person!
ReplyDeleteJust a few more weeks!
xoxo
Fun! Our neighbors are all snobs. Guess that's what I get for living in the "high rent district."
ReplyDeleteWow! I want your neighbors to plan my next birthday party! What fun!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? I hate painting so the idea of painting and repainting that door is mind-boggling to me. It must be really heavy with paint by now.
ReplyDeleteWe're having a very low key Super Bowl day. My husband and son always pick teams and have a dollar bet going on. Since our son lives in New Mexico and we live here, there are phone calls going back and forth.
Wow, I feel cheated - I never had a birthday party, much less a garage painted a color of my choice. Sounds like a lot of fun and kids that are made to feel extra special. Good for them. But a pink garage door, wow, that's bright.
ReplyDeleteI love how we all live such different yet somehow similar lives:)
ReplyDeleteI love my kids but I'm not willing to paint my garage door all the ding dong time.
ReplyDeleteinteresting neighbours, never boring for sure! Happy Superbowl, the world is watching, Canada anyway!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe I am seeing tulips. We are still in the grips of winter here.
ReplyDeleteHope you have started the year well. Can you believe we are already in February. Have a good week. xxx
I love the transitory nature of your neighbor! It's fantastic and inspiring. We always talk about doing stuff to our home as if it will need to be forever. The idea that we can redo it next week is sort of freeing.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, thank you.
Casey
wow, that's a lot of pink :) The flowers are pretty, though. I'm having a wonderfully relaxing Sunday here in Seattle, watching The Ghost Hunters marathon on syfy, playing on the 'puter, and reading. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteBlue Violet stole my comment!
ReplyDeleteWow....just wow. Think they will plan and pay for a birthday celebration for my kids?
ReplyDeleteWell it sure isn't pink!! Ha! That is amazing! And I love those tulips! Awesome. And a lot of work for them to do. What a fun bunch they are.
ReplyDeleteAround here it is cheese tray and crackers; roaring fire; beer or wine and watching the game. Fun times!!
Hugs
SueAnn
I'm still stuck at painting that garage door twice a year. I wonder how long it will take before it becomes too thick to open and close?
ReplyDeleteJust sayin. . .
Good golly miss Molly...I was thrilled to get balloons! Do ya think the kiddos are just a bit spoiled??? I can't imagine paintin' and repaintin' everything that many times a year...looks like the paint would start curlin' in the hot sun.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have those beautiful tulips pokin' their beautiful heads up through all this ice and snow we've got. {{{SIGH}}} Not gonna happen...wouldn't be prudent!
At least your neighborhood will never be 'dull'! :o)
God bless and enjoy this 'super' day!!!
Wow that must be some party
ReplyDeleteMy husband's on his way to CA and I am stuck home with the flu. I couldn't have gone anyway but I sure wanted to.
Wow that's a lot of dedication, even beyond being able to afford it... & kudos to him for being such a hands-on dad!
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are gorgeous.
Good grief! That's the craziest thing I've ever heard!
ReplyDeleteWOW! How does he do it???? Tell me he has help...PLEASE!!!!!
ReplyDeletethat's funny that they paint the garage door over and over!
ReplyDeleteI watch Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet. :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds very fun and very rich! Your neighbourhood is a happening place.
ReplyDeleteWell you have to give those neighbours 10 outta 10 for getting so ENTHUSIASTIC! Dunno about the pink garage door though...it's so...........PINK!
ReplyDeleteI like Nezzy's comment - "...catering truck or two..." are these people just using their kids to show off?
ReplyDeleteI know it's their personal choice but does it really make a difference to their daughter that there are fresh tulips planted in the front and the garage door is painted pink? How about a special banner instead? It just seems a bit over the top, I guess. But, if they have it, and it makes them happy....
ReplyDeleteSuper Bowl? What's that then...?
ReplyDeleteWell those are things I never would have thought of for a party. Can't imagine all the detail for the rest of it. Nice you have the tulips to look at though.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I'd love to have the money to paint my house, fence, etc as often as I wanted but I'm afraid it wouldn't be to celebrate the superbowl or anything!
ReplyDeleteIt's sort of like a big Pepto Bismol ad. Which is probably appropriate after all those Super Bowl wings and nachos and....
ReplyDeleteI'm all into birthdays, but repainting the garage for each one? Digging up flowers? That's way too much work in my book, but God bless em for making it special.
ReplyDeleteToo much, too much...all I can think is, poor tulips, being uprooted and probably discarded. Insanity.
ReplyDeleteSo were you able to hear the game over all the hootin' and hollerin'? Or did you go next door and join in?
Envious of the tulips. Another month here for those.
ReplyDeleteOn Super Bowl Sunday we just eat Velveeta dip and watch the commercials.
I can't imagine painting my fence six times a year.
Dang, that all sounds like a lot of work. Guess I'm too lazy to even *think* of painting my garage door to coincide with every event. Love the flowers but I really hate that they're not left to die a natural death...doesn't seem right. :/
ReplyDeleteWow... that's special. They really go all out, but I could never give up the Super Bowl for a birthday party. In fact, I didn't - we were invited to one and ... declined ;)
ReplyDeletePainting and re-painting makes some sense, although I'd never do it. But who would pull up those glorious tulips?
ReplyDelete(BTW, that chickenshit anonymous tried to leave his misogynistic blog site on mine too, but it rightfully got caught in the spam filter.)
Oh my goodness, that is one lucky little girl. I can't believe the outdoors get redecorated for a birthday party.
ReplyDeleteOkay, maybe it's just me, but I'd want to assasinate neighbours like that (shrug)..
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow! And I thought I'd seen everything!!! Those left coast high rollers sure know how to do it up festively! What fun!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat?? Who in the world has that much time and energy? I'd move:)
ReplyDeleteAmazing in a weird sort of way but who am I to judge? :-)
ReplyDeleteWOW. He puts Martha Stewart to shame! Too bad he's probably too busy to start a blog. ;-)
ReplyDeletereally??? they paint their garage over and over???? Can they just come to my home and paint it one time (but not pink please)?
ReplyDeleteWow. I'd be soopa doopa impressed if Dad was out there constantly with the paintbrush, the secateurs and the trowel but am I right in thinking he also has an army of hired help? That's cheating...just a bit, isn't it? :D
