Sundays In My City #37 - Downtown

I'm a happy member of the Sundays In My City Community (SIMC) by Unknown Mami. You can be too. Click HERE.

Last weekend, Beloved and I wanted to leave town for the holiday and escape the city, but since I couldn't find an available room at our fave hotels in Palm Springs, we decided to stay in town-- Literally.

This swank hotel recently opened at LA Live in the hip, happening section of downtown Los Angeles, but they were still working the kinks out so the room rate was amazingly low....
(The Ritz Carlton is very nice!)

We stayed on the 25th floor and had a great view out our window....

When we looked down, this is what you saw....
(Staples Center, Nokia Theater and LA Live)

There are several nice restaurants to pick from and we had a great lunch at The Farm in LA Live, cuz a farm is where you'd eat in the city....
(Restaurants at LA Live)

The weekend was a great escape and I'll share more pics with you on another Sunday. In the meantime, I wish we were here tonight-- To watch the Lakers beat Boston! (Fingers crossed.)

Have you explored the "big city" downtown area of your hometown?

  4. What a great idea. I have to admit I have never stayed in any hotels in the city where I currently live.;) I guess knowing that I can be in the downtown area within 15 minutes from where I live and can always find parking makes a hotel stay a bit obsolete.
Gorgeous pictures, sounds like a great Saturday "getaway".;)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
    xo

  5. Looks like a great weekend, although I'm not really a city girl.

Still, Stockholm is pretty small so I have explored it thoroughly before moving away from town to the burbs...

  8. I love city scapes, especially at night, and hotel rooms can be a great place to see them! :)

  9. nice. its important to get away like that just the two of you on occassion...not much of a city here to explore but i think we have found most corners...nice pics!

  10. Great idea! We haven't done that, and now I think we better. Great pictures!

  12. Living in the boondocks, city is where I want to escape to.

    Your pictures are brilliant.

  13. Wonderful photos!!! I love heading to the country to get away..Im not a city girl at all..love to visit but have a hard time living in one. Have a wonderful sunny week!!

  14. It's ironic how little time we spend exploring and enjoying the city that is so close. Christmas was the last time , and only because we were attending a work related function.
You''ve inspired me to make a point to do this.

Great pictures, and glad you had a good escape .

  15. You had a nice getaway together and the photos show the wonderful Staples Center. I have been there many times. Yes, let's cheer on the Lakers. There isn't a big city area in our little town but there is in nearby Omaha.

  16. Great idea to explore (and share) all that you have close to home. We live about 1/2 hour from Denver and sometimes spend the night in a hotel when we go to an event there. It is always a fun getaway.

  17. I <3 Downtown Denver My Fave! Oh techno?!?! I LOVE HER On my way!

  18. What fun, Joanna, to go and stay downtown and play! I used to do that in the old days when I had a job and money wasn't an issue. How I miss those times.

Did my poetry book arrive? Send me your address so I can mail you a label, autographed to stick inside!

Also, once you've read it, I'd appreciate it, if you'd go to the Amazon page and write a review....many thanks!

  19. Our downtown area is pretty small. I think they are working on trying to revive it.

  20. I quite miss my hometown of Montreal. It's been about a dozen years since I've been there and hope to get a visit in semi-soon. Even more so now that you've posted these great photos of your home. :)

  21. Wow! I lived in the LA area 13 years ago, and I don't remember downtown looking like this. Pretty cool.

  22. The most awesome place in the world, perhaps.
    Love the pics JJ!

  23. Gorgeous photos and sounds like a fun get-away. :)

I've tried to explore as much of downtown Atlanta as I can in the year I've lived here. Still so much to see! :)

  24. It's been 15 years since we left CA, but once a Laker fan, always a Laker fan!! Go Lakers!

Great view from your room window. Can't wait to see some more pics!

    Thanks for sharing!

  26. I've never been to the Staples Center but right next door, the L.A. Convention Center. It's a huge place!

    Go Lakers!!!

  27. Lakers... that's basketball right? I love the "in town" trip. Sometimes those are the best. Most cost-effective that's for sure.

    Cheers,

    Casey

  28. Although I was born and raised in the LA area, I have never stayed downtown. Thanks for taking us!

I was a Laker's fan for decades, but have jumped ship due to Kobe dislike ; -)

  29. oh that looks like a fun section of town! I always hear about the Staples Center.

  30. you live in a great city to vacation in! Atlanta, not so hot. We acted like tourists one year for our anniversary. it was okay, but LA would be way better. The only thing I remember being somewhat fun (although on the weekend everything was pre-taped so we didn't get to see everyone in action) was the tour of the CNN center.

  31. In all the 15 or so years I lived in the L.A. area, I don't think I ever once ventured downtown. What a fun excursion for you.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Downtown LA is so different than what I remember when I was growing up. It seems much nicer now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am so jealous! I've never been to a big city. Only Detroit but L.A seems amazing! Great pictures!

  34. I live in a little town about 45 miles northwest of Chicago. I could never live in the city....it's just too big. I find it a bit scary. :)

However, I was just there yesterday and enjoyed some of what the city offers in a great breakfast, coffee and a snack later on, great little boutiques for shopping and a wonderful street fest on Division Street. It was great!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I enjoy downtown Chicago or the Loop. There's a Blues Fest coming up that I hope to make it to.
That "The Farm in LA Live" sounds interesting. Do they make you feel like you are on a real farm? I think to would be better to go to a farm.

  36. When I saw the pictures of Staples Center, I wondered if you'd mention they playoffs. Got the game on as I'm reading this. Tie game right now.

  37. Sorry about your team's loss :( Looks like you got the better end of the deal.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Tough loss tonight, but don't worry they'll come back!

What a fun weekend, the hubs and I will have to try that!

  39. One of my favorite Palm Springs resorts is the Mariott Desert Springs Resort. I love the tennis program there and the last time I was there a Food & Wine event was being held. Very enjoyable!

One time Hubby and I stayed at the Hotel Captain Cook in downtown Anchorage but that was many years ago. In Girdwood, a 45 minute drive from Anchorage, we sometimes escape to the Alyeska Prince, a first class getaway ski resort. Gorgeous place and spectacularly scenic mountain, glacier and inlet views along the way.

  40. Great pictures!! I actually haven't meandered into the big city part of my city in a while, I'm hoping to do so soon. And next time you do go to the Staples center to watch the Lakers kick some Boston butt, take me with you, he he!! :-D

  41. I've never spent the night in a Columbus hotel, but I have strolled the streets, taking it all in, many times. (And as much as I sometimes pick on Columbus, there's really quite a lot to see and do.)

  45. Oh, how I envy your weekend getaway! Sometimes it's nice to let others worry about laundry & dishes for a little while. I've always loved the smell of clean hotel sheets. How nice you were able to find such a deal on such a great location!

    ReplyDelete
  46. how fun! How did you end up getting a great deal? We'd love to get away one day... :)
