One of the nice parts of having out of town friends visit is that I get to do things that I don't do nearly enough-- Like visit the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, California.
Blog buddy, Anne H. of Carb Tripper was nice enough to endure Los Angeles traffic on her vacation and meet me at the Aquarium. We had the best time talking and seeing beautiful sea creatures like these....
And these friendly guys....
The gracefulness of the the plants and animals combined with the vibrant colors and textures blew us away....
Along the way we saw this guy-- Vacuuming a giant aquarium! I love a man who knows how to operate a vacuum, so I tapped on the glass to get his attention and asked if he'd like to come to my house-- And clean my pool.... Which is covered with dust and dirt from the massive repair job we have going on.I'm guessing he gets asked that a lot because he just smiled and waved.
If you are ever in the area, the Aquarium and the surrounding pier with shops and restaurants is really great for a fun time with family and friends.

You have a pool? Pah, expect no sympathy from me about the dust and dirt (giggle) - I'm just far too jealous to care!
ReplyDeleteThe London aquarium had a visit from my daughter and hubby only last week, the kids often hop a plane to meet up with him when he works away. I haven't been there (to the aquarium) in years - these photo's remind me of many happy times. (Smile)
There are no aquariums near us, but yours looks like a really good one. You got some marvelous pictures. Some of those creatures are so unusual they hardly look real!
ReplyDeleteIt is just so nice to meet blogging friends in real life! We do have a nice Aquarium in Boston but it is usually very crowded. Husband and I went to a Valentine's evening just for adults once and it was nice and different at night.

ReplyDeleteWhen we lived in MD and worked in Baltimore's Inner Harbor, we used to go to the big aquarium there and bring the kids.
ReplyDeleteThe colors ALWAYS blow me away and to see marine life up close like that is beyond compare!
Love the photos. Aren't those colors magnificent!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have an aquarium nearby, but do have a first-class city zoological park. I enjoy the aquariums when we visit other major cities... can't wait to come see yours and meet you for coffee -- that would be twice as much fun!
ReplyDeleteP.S. We have an in-ground pool, too, so I know how much work they are. Most people aren't so envious when they realize how hard we work to keep them up, right? :-)
oh I love a beautiful (and well maintained) aquarium! The best we can do it the local Petsmart.
ReplyDeleteOh this is so wonderful, and to visit with a blog buddy! thank you Joanna for sharing the colourful pictures. I love everything underwater:)
ReplyDeleteThere is a nice aquarium in Chicago, which is only a day trip from here.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea there were black and white clownfish! I thought they were always orange and white. I love the b/w ones!
Had to laugh at the underwater vacuum cleaning guy!
ReplyDeleteGreat pics.
Good Happy Sunday to you, Joanna! How cool to meet Anne. I like the photos on both your blogs. You do know that I am just fine and love it out here and then I see all the places I like out there and I kinda sorta a teensy bit miss southern CA. Don't tell my sweet hubby that though!
ReplyDeleteWe do have an aquarium in Denver. It has gone through some ups and downs with changes of ownership but it is always a fun place to go and the kids love it. Your picture are so pretty and colorful.
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea taking pictures of your own city! I live in a small town with very little to see but you have inspired me to get out and take a fresh look around and see what I can find. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope they added more to it since it opened... Personally we were disappointed. It looked like a poor imitation of the Monterrey Bay one...Your photos are gorgeous
ReplyDeletegreat shots jj! love going to the aquarium with the boys...its like visiting anohter planet...
ReplyDeleteI love aquariums. Sadly, living in Utah, we don't have the best ones.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! We have NE Aquarium in Boston - I remember loving it when I was a kid, but we took our daughter there when she was two and it seemed really run down...plus it cost more to park than to purchase tickets! Mystic, CT has a nice aquarium - we go there often!
ReplyDeleteI live about 25 minutes from the Moneterey Bay Aquarium, it's amazing. We go there several times a year, and the kids always go nuts.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are beautiful, well done!
Nope; no aquarium around here, unfortunately. Those anemones are gorgeous and make me miss our own salt water aquarium. We had the cutest little clown fish, too :)
ReplyDeletewe don't--alas! but if we did, I'd totally volunteer to work at it because they are one of my favorite places. every time we go on a vacation, we visit one if we can!
ReplyDeleteI love aquariums! I had no idea this was in/close to LA. We visited Scripps when we were on our way down from LA to San Diego and I felt like I was in heaven. :)
ReplyDeleteWow! What great pictures and what a great aquarium! I'll have to be sure to stop there if I'm ever in the area!
ReplyDeleteLindsey Petersen
oh my goodness what beautiful bright and vibrant photos those are!
ReplyDeleteWe've got the National Aquarium in DC and the Baltimore Aquarium. Both are nice, but yours has a better reef exhibit, hands down.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics, Joanna. We have Deep Sea World underneath the Forth Bridge. Little Jack loves it!
ReplyDeleteSadly, we do not have an aquarium here, though there is some talk of one being built in Toronto.
ReplyDeleteWe're fortunate here in Minnesota, there are aquariums at the Mall of America (called Mall of Embarrassment by some) and another at the Minnesota Zoo. There is a large freshwater aquarium up in Duluth as well. We love our fish!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely visit. I haven't been there for a long time. The phots are stunning.
ReplyDeletenice pics
ReplyDeleteI posted some Shedd Aquarium pics last fall and I just checked and you had commented so thanks again.
You shared with us that you are a big aquarium fan.
They are nice and the very educational. I must say though after snorkeling I find the aquarium a little less exciting. However, they are still good because plane tickets to snorkeling places can be expensive.
I love aquariums - they are so relaxing (except when they are being terrifying - which is kinda cool too). these creature look a little more exotic than the ones found in the SC aquarium. I love the SC aquarium in Charleston but it's a bit of an acquired taste. Missed you, Joanna (I've been awol)! I'm glad I stopped by today and am looking forward to catching up on some of your posts!
ReplyDeleteThe closest thing would be Bass Pro in Springfield about 60 miles away, baby! I loved looking at all the beautiful salt water fish. I just love the bright colors of the clown fish.
ReplyDeleteGod bless and have yourself a Super Sunday!!!
There is an aquarium at the Toronto Zoo, but we love the one in Vancouver at Stanley Park.
ReplyDeleteLove these photos,
My favourite pic is of the Clown fish, definitely!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have one around here but the next time I am in CA I am asking my cousin to take me there!! Beautiful pictures!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place. I remember when they were building the aquarium. Umm did I give my age away LOL. We haven't been there for a while now. Water life is so darn fascinating.
ReplyDeleteSuch colourful photos. Can't help but smile at clownfish. Do you figure they taste funny? ;)
ReplyDeleteOhhh that so needs to be our next stop on things to do with the boys! LOVE the clown fish!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWe do! It's called Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World... people walk through a huge glass tunnel with fish/sharks etc swimming around and above them! It's quite neat.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you were able to meet up with Anne and have to say you live in one of most beautiful spots ever......:-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteSo happy you and Anne met up for lunch.....you live in a beautiful state ever.......:-) Hugs
ReplyDeleteWe took our little girl to the aquarium for her third birthday and she absolutely loved it as did all the other little kiddies there as well.
ReplyDeleteFabulous pics... I want the vacuumers job :0)
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I love the aquatic life and watching the movement of an aquarium is as interesting as it is tranquil.
ReplyDeleteIn the top of Denmark where I live is one of the biggest European aquariums, that I yet have to visit.;)
