Sundays In My City #18 - Ohio Snow

Do you know Unknown Mami? She's awesome and she created a fun Sunday theme inviting you to get out and take pictures of your city to share with the rest of us. Click here for details and her logo and click here to see Unknown Mami's City today.

In "honor" of all the snow that's blanked the US so far this year, we're taking a trip down memory lane for this week's Sunday In My City. Godson and I have been going back to Ohio every summer for about 6 years and we've been back for winter and "snow" three times. His first tip was at about age 7 and he was VERY excited.

The picture below was taken on a 90 degree Los Angeles day. His snow gear arrived via UPS and he insisted in trying it on. Then he refused to take it off-- despite the heat. So we made a sign and took a photo to send to our Ohio family letting them know that we were praying for SNOW-- and ready for it!

Since snow is no big deal in Ohio, some of my nieces posed for their own picture and emailed their reply.

But in the end, Godson and I got the snow we prayed for-- And a lot of it, teaching us to be VERY specific about what we pray for. We got 18 inches of snow in 36 hours, closing the airport and extending our trip by two days.

Godson was in snowball, sledding riding, snowman-making heaven for his very first experience in a winter wonderland.

How's your Sunday?

  1. Very cute, and indeed a lesson on being careful what you ask for. What a great memory you have provided for him.

  2. Weather-wise it seems most of us want the 'polar' ('scuse the pun) opposite of what we have. There should be some kind of 'life swap' scheme going on at the height of Summer and Winter to keep us all happy.

Looks like a lot of fun was had by all. :)

  5. What cute pictures!! We used to take the kids up to Big Bear at least once during the winter. The snowboots became part of the everyday uniform for the rest of the year!

So happy your godson was able to experience it. We got a whopping one inch here!

  12. Oh Joanna! Be careful what you pray for indeed!

LOVE the snow gear on a 90-degree day! Glad you were able to put it to better use in Ohio though. And your nieces are a scream! Seriously? Nobody got the flu after that little photo shoot in the snow practically nekkid? LOL. I love their spunk! Wonder where they get it from?

Thanks for sharing your wonderful memories! Happy new year, chica!

  14. How wonderful, Joanna!
My kids like the snow a lot more than I do. I don't like anything about it. It is pretty though.

    Hugs!!

  15. Send Godson out here and he will get plenty of snow. Huge snow drifts everywhere, we have been able to shovel enough snow off the driveway that we aren't snowed in this time. That is such a great way to send the love vibes to family in different parts of the country, the snow outfit in sunny LA and then the swim outfits in the snow! Hah. I really like it.

  23. Growing up in Arizona, I felt like I was missing out having no snow. Now that I have it, my response is "eh, whatever."

  25. What a great family you have! I loved how they were in their "summer" suits in the snow and Godson was in his winter gear in 90 degree heat. At least he got what he had prayed for.

    Such cute pictures.

  30. My Sunday was most relaxing - spent with two of my boys. No snow here. Lived in it for so long and now only experience it when I visit my family up north. Always fun to see others in it though.

  31. I love it!

My sunday was freezing cold, and no snow. That's the worst kind of cold!

  32. Terrific photos! Snow is fun, no matter where you're from.

  33. What a fun post! It's funny how kids adapt so easily to the weather and how much that changes as we get older. Much as I loved Minnesota winters when I was a kid, every year I hate it more.

  34. Dearest Snarky Sister:

I have returned from two weeks journey to so many places and seeing so many people that my head is in a whirl.

You are one of my very first stops to say hello and wish you a fantastic year ahead.

I look forward to deepening the word relationship we seem to share. You inspire me to continue to try.

    Love & Best Wishes,
    East Coast Snarky Sister.

P.S. Those nieces? Pretty funny return volley!

  35. Ironically very cold with six inches of new snow across the Ponderosa. Skidded into Church teaching my Sunday School class and Kids Church. Slipped on home where Hubby and I roasted hot dogs and marshmallows in the fireplace then caught a movie on TV.

I'm so glad Godson got the requested snow but baby your poor freezin' neices are a hoot and a half.

    God bless!!!

  36. My Sunday was nowhere near as good as that! lol. I love the fact that he tried on the suit in blistering heat and the girls posted back a photo of their own - great that everyone can get involved!

  38. Love all the snow pics ... we've got plenty of the white stuff here in Michigan. I just took several photos of my garden in the snow ... kind of cool, but I'd much prefer things to be green and warm here :-)
Will be sending you a photo, for fun, via e-mail.
    Happy New Year to you!

  41. Those signs are great! Glad he got the snow he asked for and you had a great trip. Hopefully the airport closing wasn't too much of an inconvenience and instead you were able to enjoy your extended trip.

  45. What tremendous fun! I love that the kids just had fun with the entire thing, including donning summer gear, and standing out in the cold, just to create a fun image!

Yes, there are plenty of genie jokes about the need for specificity when asking for anything from anyone! I'll spare you them, but that's what your post made me remember. Not only did your post make me smile, the ensuing memories did also. That's a lot to accomplish with a blog post, isn't it?

Take care, congratulations on the post of the week!
