Sundays In My City #56 - Winter?

I've complained many times about the lack of Fall and fall foliage in Southern California. So I've lived vicariously through bloggers' photos of the gorgeous colors in other part of the country. But this past week, I finally found a little bit of Fall in my own back yard-- well actually somebody else's front yard, but Fall colors nevertheless.

Against the clear blue sky, these trees took my breath away....

I know most of you are either long past fall and/or freezing your tails off with winter and snow, but to see Mother Nature in action-- in person, is a real treat for me. Fall is definitely my favorite season of the year.

How about you?

  2. The color has been spectacular around my house. That cold snap really did the trick but the falling leaves are constant like rain. Very cool. :)

  3. When we first moved back to Oregon after a 10 year absence, I rode the little electric train to downtown Portland every day for work.

And one day, as we rounded the corner into Gateway transit center, I noticed the entire hillside above the freeway was a riot of gold and red and orange and yellow and brown.

    I was so surprised.
    I'd forgotten Fall!

And I've treasured it like a gift every year since.

  4. We've gotten snow quite early this year for our neck of the woods. I'd have to agree with you that fall is my favorite time of the year.

  7. Joanna, I can so relate to this. We aren't much different up here in the San Francisco area. I've been thrilled, driving my son daily to catch his train to work, to see some beautiful trees in Millbrae. I, sometimes, just park on the street, in awe, and, of course, I take pictures. I wonder that the resident of these homes don't call the police!

  8. Wonderful colors! Fall is my favorite season, with crisp cool temperatures and amazing colors.

  9. Me too! In Utah, we have about 5 months of summer, 6 months of winter, 3 weeks of spring, and 1 weeks of fall. It's depressing!

  10. That is beautiful! And be glad you don't live here. Freezing cold weather with single digit wind chills, almost single digit temps. Tonight will be below zero!

  12. I am sitting here typing in my home office -- with a view of snow piling up in mountains around my home, weighing down the branches of the evergreens! I love the photo of your blue skies and rich autumn shades, and I envy you! Thanks for a little California dreamin' on such a winter's day :-)

  17. YES! I love fall. It's still pretty green here in Florida, but there's some yellow and orange foliage here and there.

    Pretty picture.

  18. I do love the colors of Fall, and that is great example of it. Right now we have been under a winter weather warning, with ice and then blowing snow all night. That sky looks pretty inviting!

  28. Great colors and I am glad for you that you found these trees in person there in southern CA. I think I am a spring kind of gal. Spring forward and all that. Still cool and new buds peeking through. Time to get the bikes out and ride.

  38. Well, would ya look at that!!! Just goes to show ya that God really does give us the desires of our heart! Your beautiful 'fall' pic is just a big old verification of that!

Yep, I'm one of those...freezin' my tail end off today. It was a whoppin' six her on the Ponderosa this Mornin'.

God bless ya sweetie and enjoy your fall!!!

  39. Spring is my favorite followed by Fall.

Having said that, this morning as I walked into McDonald's -- walking across the snow-covered lot in my hoodie -- I had a "for 13 degrees, this doesn't feel too bad," thought. It doesn't take long for the cold to get old which, I think, is why Spring beats Fall as my favorite... it's nice to see the cold go.

  40. There's nothing quite like the experience of beautiful autumn in real life!

  41. See, fall is such a sign of winter coming that I cannot love it. I'm a spring girl all the way.

  42. There are lots of bits and pieces I love about fall - and the foliage is definitely in there. BUT for me, fall also means that the frigid winter is almost here, which makes me ... not love fall quite so much!

  43. Those trees are beautiful and nice that your shot does them justice (you'll just have to frame it to have handy for when that fall nostalgia strikes).
