Speechless & Other News

My Big Sister has three grown kids of her own-- She's the sister that just became the Grandma to this little beauty....

Yes, our family is still in baby heaven five days after the early arrival of my sweet great-niece.

Enough pictures have already been taken to fill several scrapbooks, text messages are still flying like crazy and our Little Miss already has a huge following on Facebook. Ahhh, life is good.

But my Big Sister... She's-- she's-- well... She is still so blown away by watching the birth of her first grandchild-- by her oldest daughter-- That it's left her speechless. And let me tell you, speechless is not something usually associated my anyone in our family!

So my Big Sister has a question for you-- One that she has asked everyone who would listen. I'm hoping you might have an answer for her...

How do you-- in ONE word-- sum up something as incredible as childbirth?

And while you're thinking about it, here's another picture of Grandma's pride and joy--Both of them!

  1. You mean, I didn't win? Just kidding - congrats to the winner! Fabulous prize.

And congrats to you all - that baby is just adorable.

As for the birth of a child, I'd have to use the word: miraculous.

  2. How exciting! A new baby in the family. So far, I only have two granddogs....since Laura and Alex only married May 7th, I hope I'll have my first grandchild by this time next year ( I did give her the cutest little strawberry baby shoes - I love strawberries - at her bridal shower ). I don't think there's a single word that can describe anything as incredible as childbirth - it's pretty INDESCRIBABLE.

Congratulations to SueAnn on her big win. Lucky girl.

I feel like a winner, too, Joanna. I can't thank you enough for that nice mention about my book, "Life's Journey" - what a lovely thing to do. I don't know if it will sell but I feel so good to have gotten it finished. I am so sorry, though, that I didn't publish it a couple of years ago - my mother, who encouraged my poetry since I was a child, had a stroke in Feb and does not even know who I am anymore nor can she read ( she is 85 and legally blind ). Nonetheless, it is dedicated to her.

    Wish it were us...

And do brand new mamas know how beautiful they look right after they've given birth? Someone should tell them.

  11. I know it's not original but - miraculous. I have to go with that too.

    ReplyDelete
  12. She is a beautiful little lady.It is hard to put the miracle of childbrth into one word, but mine would have to be "LOVE", and that would have to in capitols and bold. """LOVE"""

  13. I'm still thinking and I can't come up with one word...it's just too amazing.

My daughter is pregnant with our first grandchild and the whole thing is just unbelievably awesome. Looking at her and laughing with her and comforting her....pregnancy is just.....beyond words.

Your great niece is gorgeous. I wish them all the very best!

  14. I seriously doubt that there is such a word, unless it would be "wow."

    ReplyDelete
  15. Not that I have gone through it, but my word would be "priceless".

    Congrats!

  16. I'm so happy for SueAnn.. woo hoo!

  17. JOYFUL!

  18. From the perspective of a grandmom who has seen the birth of several of her grandchildren I would say "joyful", but "miraculous" is also very true. Your post definitely express the joy your family is feeling.

  21. Congrats to SueAnn for winning your giveaway, Joanna. That's such a coincidence because I was going to remark how your new grand niece is just as perfect and porcelain as one of SueAnn's amazing dolls!

As for my one word: "miraculous."

  22. My one word would be blessing. I know that mine was a blessing from God that has continued to be a blessing for 35 years now.

and so happy for you SueAnn!!

  26. Beautiful baby. Congrats to the family! As for one word to describe birth, I think "miraculous" sums it up best for me.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My first thought was miracle for the one word but as you read the comments the limit of one word doesn't work.

So I'll add another word to the list -
    limitless

Some guys might say tax-deduction but that would miss the point. I do hope the word sleepless doesn't come along.
    all the best

  28. A beautiful baby and her beautiful mama, too!

    One word???

    Overwhelming

    ReplyDelete

  34. Congratulations on the beautiful addition to your family.

As to one word, that's tough but I'll try "Divine".

All my best to your new blessing.

  35. 'Awesome'

    'magical'

    'gobsmacking'

    'messy'

    'painful'

and if your baby is 10 pound 12 ounces 'EXCRUCIATING' ! lol

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congrats to Mom and Grandma!

    Hows about "BREATHTAKING"!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. If the word didn't *so* remind me of a surfer duuude saying it, I'd say that word would be 'awesome', because it truly is a sublime, powerful and awe inspiring experience.

Congrats to all involved and welcome to the world sweet baby. :)

  38. Wowo congratualtions to everyone...what a sweet little peanut! I do so love babies! Can't imagine..even though I have three 18 to 29...one of them giving birth...or me being a Grammy...ok well I can but no peanuts in my future at the moment sigh.
As for giving birth...well don't that five times and every single one was amazing, enlighteningm empowering and overwhelmingly emotional. I had one at home with a mid wife and liked that the best of all...cozy safe and sound with little one right there from second one! Loved that!!
    Hugs to you hon, Sarah

  39. Didn't I tell you, Slommler, is my other name I use to hide my real identity?....

About your question, I can't answer it because I've never given birth.

    ReplyDelete
  40. "WOW."

  42. How would I sum up childbirth in one word? OUCH. But, more seriously, Joanna, I could not go past the word MIRACLE. Congratulations to your beautiful niece, her very proud mum (first time grandmother, how very special), and all of your family on it's most sweetest, latest addition. xoxo.
Did I mention that little girl is soooooo gorgeous.

    ReplyDelete
  43. 'Miracle', of course!

So precious!! I can smell that baby head from here!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love it that you are all so excited...how precious. And childbirth? I agree with OUCH! Or miracle...whichever you prefer!!

  45. Wonderful photos, Joanna. A new born baby brings so much joy to one's life.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have never experienced child birth. I hope one day to be present for one. (so, sorry, not sure how to answer your question, but I would guess that meeting my children in the arms of their social worker for the first time might be just as incredible).

  47. Transforming.

    Congratulations to all of you!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Humbling is the word I would come up with. It makes you realise how miraculous and special life is.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Joy.

I still thrill at the site of a newborn and look forward to the days when I'll be a grandmother. Well, hopefully the wait will be some many years yet, as my daughter is yet in her teens.

Hmmm, need to be cautious with those positive baby thoughts! Yikes!
