Fall Shoe Shopping

There are usually two grueling, unbearably hot weeks in Southern California when I wish I had air conditioning and/or lived somewhere else-- like in a place where it was starting to feel like Fall.   This is one of those weeks.  As if on cue when the calendar turned to September, SoCal is getting blasted with a gigantic heatwave with temps teetering near 100 for the foreseeable future.

I'm spending a lot of time in the pool-- So much time I'm beginning to resemble a prune.

What I'd rather be doing is tossing the flip flops into the back of my closet while I'm pulling out sweaters and shoes and all things cozy.

Actually what I'd rather be doing is shoe shopping-- cuz this girl can always shop for shoes-- in a well air conditioned mall!

But "shoe shopping" has new meaning now with my acting feet requiring more "sensible" shoes.  Sensible does not make shoe shopping nearly as fun as it used to and honestly was a little depressing.  I was instantly shorter without my high heels and dressed a little more matronly than my 55 year old self preferred.

I must have complained about my aching foot and new-- ahem, "fashion style", or lack thereof, a bit too much (sorry about that) because the nice folks at Dansko contacted me and asked if I'd try out a pair of shoes from their lovely new Fall collection.  "Heck yes!" I said and these beauties arrived in my mailbox.

Pretty cute for a pair of "good for you" shoes, don't you think!?!  It's the Dansko Franka cross-strap low cut bootie with a 3 1/2 heel and their signature cushioned footbed.  Man-oh-man, are they comfortable!

I'm loving feeling taller again and, dare I say, far hipper in my new booties.  As soon as things cool off in these parts, I'll be wearing them with an outfit like this....  It gives me something to look forward too as this is really how I used to dress.  Kinda classic, kinda hip and able to dress up or down with jewelry.

I'm so happy!

Thanks to Dansko for the cool shoes!  You can find them and all the Dansko styles HERE or HERE on Facebook.  Or, if you're far more techno savvy then me, you can follow then on Twitter @Dansko

Are you ready to dress for Fall?

  1. Hmmm. May have to look at those... with my orthotics, I always need to remove foot beds. I haven't been in anything that gives height for ages! These are really cute!

  3. Lovely shoes! We don't have air here in southern Ontario and our friends can be quite horrified at times. It is just beginning to cool down at night again. I am so looking forward to sweaters and tights.

  5. I love danskos - I too have to wear sensible shoes (which I hate), and I think Danskos give you some flexibility. They look adorable with your outfit - I'm gonna have to check out that style, I like it.

  6. Oh my goodness, if I wore heels I'd interfere with flight patterns. (I'm 5-11)

  7. Gorgeous 'sensible' shoes! There is a market for this kind of glamour as the baby boomers age.

  10. We are having lots of end of summer heat here also, but those are shoes I would definitely look at for fall. Who knew "healthy" shoe could be so cute.

  11. CUTE! I've been a Dansko fan for years, though, because I have wide feet and "sensible" shoes have been my only option my whole life. But they have become better...
Clarks makes awfully cute shoes, too, FYI.

  14. Those shoes are adorable. Who knew? I've never liked high heels but also don't want to sport the orthopedic look either! These boot/shoes are perfect!

  15. I like those too -- and you look great in them in the photo! Will have to check them out, as I also like to have some height with bootcut jeans and slacks. And I love booties ... finally figured out how to wear them late last year. In Michigan, it's not unusual to own a dozen pairs of boots -- we wear them all the time! Still, I am jealous of SoCal weather -- though I know what you mean about those humid, awful days. (Thank god for swimming pools.)

  16. I know about shoes. When I downsized for India, fifty pairs went to Good Will, including the last pair of sexy stilettos I had held onto for 15 years ( God knows why since I had rarely been higher than two inches since my back surgery over 25 years ago ). I now opt for comfort and support...though my right hip is bothering me, even in my "good" shoes. I hope this doesn't mean another surgery is in store for me.

Your Dansko "gift" is lovely...though you weren't in an air conditioned mall to purchase them.

It is always so good to hear from you, Joanna....home in three months. Perhaps if I ever make it to the L. A. area, we can meet in person!

  17. I always wonder why one can't have fashion & comfort in a shoe. Why must we choose one over the other??!! I'll take a look at the website.

  18. Those are some pretty darn cute shoes. I am 39 but gave up stilettos, while pregnant and living in San Fran, with a mile walk from BART to work. I never looked back. Now fancy means Clarks for me. *Sigh* love your blog. www.getrealmama.blogspot.com

  20. Those are pretty cool shoes. The comfy part is the most important though. Style isn't the number one thing for me since I became a senior. Glad you found some shoes that you like. I will check out their site.

  25. I will check out that link--Thanks. I really like Naturalizer for cute shoes that don't cause pain and suffering. I'm in the market for some boots this year, to wear with jeans, but I'm kind of wondering what's the age cut-off for cool Vs. wannabee/cut it out. I need a fashion mentor for the 50-something crowd; do you have a board on Pinterest?
