Good News + GIVEAWAY

Remember my niece and her boyfriend who were going wilderness hiking in Yosemite? If you do, then you can only imagine the huge sigh of relief I felt when they pulled back into my driveway yesterday safe and sound.

The trip was amazing and fun for them but I'm pretty sure this will be the last wilderness anything this couple does together. My niece said it was a once in a lifetime experience but "OMGosh hiking nearly straight up the side of a mountain is way harder than it looks".

I think it cured them, or at least her, of attempting this type of extreme adventure ever again-- "Extreme" being defined as anything that does not have a wood floor, a roof over her head, running water, and preferably an elevator.

But, they lived to tell the story, didn't see one bear along the way, and saw some spectacular sights. Speaking of sights, this is the sight I saw as they unloaded their gear from the rental car.....

Is this all the gear they took? Oh no, no, no. They were loaded with stuff. THIS is the gear that smelled too bad to bring into our house!

Yay! Safe and sound...and stinky too! I'm not camper so it's hard for me to realize the fun in that adventure! I like a day hike....at the mall!

glad they are back safe and sound! Unpacking is a chore though, especially the smelly stuff!

Glad for your sake that they made it back safe and sound. And smelly or not, I'm sure you are feeling a lot better about things now, Joanne.

I have backpacked for up to a week and remember how much I enjoyed taking a nice shower when I got home. Glad to hear they got it out of their system. :-)

I would really worry about the mountain lions! Glad their hike went well. Hiking is not for me I do not do well looking down from on high...

Don't you just love the Boycott American Women guy??

I'm glad they're back home - even if they brought smelly things with them! :)

Haha, I got that first comment on my blog a while back too.

I´m so glad your niece is back and all was well. Sometimes experiencing things "first hand" can be so good.

That same scammer has commented on my blog before, too!

So glad they arrived home safe and sound. My cousin hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. She loved it but she loves that kind of adventure and regularly goes hiking and rock climbing. I like hiking but the longest hiking trips I take is usually 2 - 3 days.

Hi all, I removed the "boycott" comment people are referring. That guy makes the round and has left one too many big comment/advertisement messages here promoting his "anti-woman" blog so I deleted it.

Who knows after her legs and muscles are back to normal she might go again. We all tend to forget the pain don't we?

Hey what's that pink thing in the picture? Pink slippers? Pink teddy bear? Pink is not allowed in the wilderness.

uh, that is funny! So glad they enjoyed themselves but also glad they are home and you can breath now :)

Glad they survived...I can imagine the smell!

Hiking okay. Up a mountain, not so much. Straight up? No.

Glad they had a good time. Did they get any pictures? What kind of wildlife did they see?

I hope the word is getting around about your fabulous giveaway.

Although I like to hike in Yosemite, I am not fond of camping. I want to be back in my own bed by nightfall. Terry and I are, though, thinking of renting a house just outside of the park lands in a couple of years so that we can spend time watching the light move across those glacier-produced walls. Yosemite is an amazing place.

I'm glad they are back safe. Give me a fancy hotel room, room service, and a great big bathtub to soak in! But I'll bet they saw some amazing sights.

Mommy! We mommies tend to worry too much!
So glad your camping peeps are safe and sound.

That gear - mine still smells like a campfire from when I stayed at Joshua Tree.
Awesome stuff, JJ - hope you can one day get out to gift yourself with the experience! It's life changing!
Love ya!

It's been a long time since I camped with my family. It gives me fond memories but I does not make me want to do it again!

I can almost smell the stench coming off that gear.

Even some of the "day" hikes (when they say start EARLY so you can be back by dark, well pay attention) are strenuous. I'll do the "tent cabins" there but not hikes where you have to string you food up into trees so the bears don't get it. Ambitious folks.

I am glad they made it home safe and sound. I wonder how long it will take before they are ready for another adventure?

HalfAsstic.com said...

Heh! Well, that's a sign of a good time! I mean if they're putting so much into it that their gear is smelling, they really got after it!
At least they can say they "did it", now!

Awesome! I literally just finished writing my own post about hiking in Yosemite last week. Believe me, though, we did NOT do anything hard-core! Good for your daughter!
