Sundays In My City - Endeavour

The Space Shuttle Endeavour landed in Los Angeles after giving our city a glorious arial view of it's magnificence.  My neighbors and house painters and I gathered on our back patio that overlooks the Hollywood sign and got a fantastic view with four separate sightings.  There wasn't a single dry eye!

My camera doesn't begin to do justice but I have picture to prove I saw this historic event-- And it was totally awesome.

Look realllly closely.  You'll see the Endeavor piggybacked on top of a NASA 747 with the two military planes above.  The Hollywood sign is on the right...

  1. Very cool that you got to see it. Back in the eighties, I saw a similar event outside of my office window in Montreal. I wish I could remember which shuttle it was but that part escapes me. It was quite a thrill though. I'm glad you were able to experience it.

  10. That is so awesome! I'm just sad they are cutting down all those trees to get it to the museum. Trees are awesome too.

  12. I was surprised that it flew directly over my school from the Golden Gate Bridge....so were the kids! We were all on the playground and it headed right to us, then banked over the playground with all the kids running below it screaming and waving...I am sure the crew was equally amazed to see 400 of us as they flew so low! But we don't have the famous sign in our pictures :) Very cool!

  13. I wonder what will happen with the space program. It was such a hopeful thing in the '60's - I"ll never forget watching the first lunar landing.

  14. very cool to see that from your pool deck. I saw one of them piggyback way back in the 80's at an Air Force base airshow. I know Vanderberg AFB is a good ways from the LA area but have you have ever seen a launch from there?

  19. Like the others say ... so cool to see this bit of history. I hope they revitalize the space program and keep it going. It's just part of being human, to wonder what's out there.

  25. That is a pretty incredible photo. I've never seen one in real life.

Hello, I left for over a year. And here I am back to life! Yay!

When you have time, stop by and see what kept me away and find out what brought me back.

    I'm a very happy girl!

  26. I cannot even imagine what that was like. I would have felt so emotional, too. In Jan of 1986, I was driving to Galveston to take a cruise and detoured to stop at the NASA training center at Webster, Texas where the Challenger astronauts had spent so much of their time ( it was just a few days after the Challenger explosion ). The entire town was covered in signs, flowers, pictures, etc. I cried like a baby. The astronauts had belonged to the town of Webster, to the whole country...
