Sundays In My City #50 - Eggcellent

This Sunday I'm cheering on runners in this Race, but on Friday I had an eggcellent time with Godson in the kitchen.

Do you know how many eggs it take to master the art of egg cracking and then separating the whites from the yolks? With a lot of concentration and about 5 dish towels to wipe up the "oophs I cracked that one too hard" tries....

It takes about 8 or 9 attempts, before it suddenly all makes sense....

Then the next 18 or so are a snap-- or should I say an egg-cracking success!

Lemon Meringue Pie and homemade pasta are in our future using the separated eggs.

How's your Sunday?

  2. The master chef-in-training is now proficient in separating egg whites. Next time show what he cooked using them. He is getting so grown up looking. Hilary cracked me up with her comment!

  6. Good for you, for your cheering efforts today. You are a good soul Joanna.
I have an aesthetic eye, so of course it was drawn to your kitchen right away. I could live in there. If Cute Hubby wasn't around, I'd put a rug in my kitchen too.
And who wouldn't love to have a head full of hair like your godson? Gorgeous.
I was allergic to eggs as a kid. Couldn't start eating them until high school.

  11. I want to know why he wanted to learn such a thing?! My son can strip an engine and put it back together with no pieces left over, but this? This he couldn't do! I doubt he ever even thought to want to master such a task!

Snarky Sister...I can't tell you how much I love you that you did this with him!

  20. I have actually successfully done this. It's kinda like playing with a slinky - back and forth between the shell halves.
I've never mentioned this success in eggs to my wife - she would push the envelope on it and have me baking something. For me it's a talent that can remind hidden.

  21. That's hard to do for even those of us that have been doing this for years!! Great pictures!

  22. That's too funny. He did much better than I would. I have "butter" fingers in the kitchen. Perhaps he's a chef in the making. And save some lemon meringue pie for me. I love it.

  23. Would you adopt me, please? I'm no good at making pies, but I DO have an egg separater that I could bring along!

  34. Lemon Meringue Pie and homemade pasta are just about the pinnacle of good foods. This is a good skill for godson to know - there will be lots of great food in his future. I can't imagine the tool folks are mentioning--once you practice, separating eggs is a no-brainer!

  35. Well done, Teacher. Can't have too darn many skills. I still flush with pride whenever I tie my shoes.

  36. These photo's are adorable - and just look at his gorgeous hair! Lemon merangue pie is my top favourite all time sweet - but I have to confess, my home made pasta never seems to come out right, no matter how hard I try! Maybe I would benefit from a session in your kitchen, too?

  45. Godson looks so serious! You two have so much fun together! I have not made lemon meringue in a long time. When my paternal grandmother was alive I used to make it for her every year when she came down to visit or if I went up there. That was her very favorite pie!

I look forward to seeing pictures from the pasta making adventure!
